Optus Repoint FAQs

Why do you need to repoint my satellite dish?

Optus is decommissioning the Satellite (D2) currently used to deliver your broadband service and replacing it with their Optus D3 satellite. The angle of your satellite dish will need to be adjusted (approx. 5 degrees) to align and point directly at the Optus D3 satellite.

When will the repoint of my connection happen, and what company will be doing this work?

Downer NZ will carry out the repoint, and they will be in contact with you to arrange an appointment. If you have any concerns with the repoint of your service, please contact Farmside on 0800 32 76 74.

Will my service be impacted?

The only downtime you will experience is when the Downer technician is adjusting your satellite dish and installing the new satellite modem. The performance of your service after the repoint will be the same as what you currently experience.

Will my Satellite Broadband service be faster on the Optus D3 satellite?

The speed of your connection will be the same as your current service.

Why is a new satellite modem needed?

The current model of satellite modem you have is now 10 years old and this is an opportunity to update your modem to the latest version.

Can I get my satellite dish moved to another location on the roof?

If you would like the satellite dish relocated, it will incur full relocation charges. Please call Farmside on 0800 32 76 74 to discuss.

Do I have to be home when the technician arrives?

Yes, an adult will need to be at home the day the work is being performed and provide the Downer technician indoor access to replace the Satellite modem and ensure the service is working. That person will need to sign off the work before the technician leaves the property, to confirm that the work has been completed by Downer.

Will this cost me anything?

The repoint work plus the new satellite modem will be provided at no charge.

Will my monthly Plan charge increase?

No, there is no change to your current Optus Satellite broadband plan charge.

Do I need to sign a new contract term?

You will need to sign a new contract term when taking the 1month free offer or if you are changing to another Optus Satellite Broadband plan.

Will I need a new Wi-fi router?

Your current router will work with the new satellite modem.

Will my Digital Voice calling service still work?

Yes, your Digital Voice service will continue to work as it did before the repoint and no changes are required to this service.

What if I don’t want my Satellite Broadband service moved?

If we don’t repoint your satellite connection by the 15th of December2022, your Broadband service will no longer work. If you also have a Digital Voice service, this will also stop working, and you will not have a calling service.

What if I cancel my Satellite Broadband service?

If your contract term has not expired, you will need to pay the applicable early disconnection fee. You can find the applicable fee in our Broadband Terms and Conditions. If your contract term has expired, you will need to provide 30 days’ notice to cancel your service.

Do I need to send back the old satellite modem?

There is no need to return the old satellite modem back to Farmside.
